About Grand Seiko STGK019
Grand Seiko “Sakura” Mechanical Automatic Elegance Collection
Elegantly sized and set with diamonds, a new Grand Seiko women’s mechanical watch in stainless steel.
With the new STGK019, elegant proportions and diamond adornment meet the practicality of stainless steel. At just 27.8mm in diameter, this new women’s model is sized for smaller wrists, but it still contains a high-quality Grand Seiko automatic movement, the 9S27.
The dial features a molded pattern reminiscent of a beautiful silk cloth, painted the light pink of a cherry blossom with a slight hint of red. With 45 diamonds set on the bezel and an additional eleven on the dial serving as hour markers, the new STGK019 is sure to sparkle on the wrist as you go about your day.
The exhibition case back is a window into the technical mastery of the watchmakers of the Grand Seiko Studio Shizukuishi, where this elegant women’s watch and other Grand Seiko mechanical timepieces are made.
Grand Seiko STGK019 Features
Classic in style, this petite timepiece features a pale pink dial inspired by the color of cherry blossoms – or Sakura – which traditionally feature on Japanese Kimonos. The Grand Seiko watchmakers’ pride in their surroundings is regularly represented in their designs – from engineering watch movements which emulate the smooth motion of time passing, to creating dials reflecting the beauty of Japanese nature.
Powered by a mechanical in-house 9S27 caliber, this movement has been developed to achieve Grand Seiko’s standard for high precision in a significantly smaller caliber. It strikes a difficult balance between high performance and slimness with a precision rate of +8 to−3 seconds a day and a power reserve of 50 hours. This performance is delivered by an 8 beat movement that measures just 19.4mm in diameter and 4.49mm in height, allowing an elegantly slim case profile.
The case shape follows the recognizable ‘Grand Seiko Style’ with brilliant polished surfaces and softly curved lines finished with our in-house Zaratsu polishing, an art that takes many years to master. The Japanese have always loved the presence of the delicate nuances created by the harmony of light and shadow and the infinite gradations between them. Just as the opposites of light and shadow exist side by side, in a Grand Seiko timepiece mirror-polished surfaces and hairline finishes are connected. The 27.8mm diameter case features 11 diamonds on the dial, whilst the bezel features 34 diamonds.
Every Grand Seiko features signature high standards of precision, durability and legibility, handcrafted in Japan by Takumi artisans. Grand Seiko: beautifully, precise Japanese watchmaking, from the pinnacle of Seiko Watch Corporation’s in-house manufacture.

Grand Seiko STGK019 History
Prior to 1960, to challenge the status of Swiss watches and change the perception of Japanese watches, Daini Seikosha and Suwa began the discussion of a product line that can match the quality of Swiss watches under the suggestion of the parent company. At the time, Suwa Seikosha Co. was in charge of manufacturing men’s watches, so it was decided that Suwa would be producing the first Grand Seiko (GS).
The first Grand Seiko was released in 1960, it was based on Seiko’s previous high-end watch, CROWN. This Grand Seiko has a 25-jewel, manual-winding, 3180 caliber, and only 36,000 units were produced. This was also the first chronometer-grade watch manufactured in Japan, and it was based on Seiko’s own chronometer standard.
Design style
The design language of the Grand Seiko was set in 1967, with the creation of Grand Seiko 44GS. The 44GS set the ground for all future Grand Seiko with nine elements. These elements help improve the legibility of the watch under different situations, and create a sharp, crisp visual impression:
- Double width index at 12 o’clock
- Multi-faceted rectangular markers
- Highly polished bezel
- Highly polished planes and two-dimensional surface
- Half recessed crown
- Flat dial
- Multi-faceted hour and minute hands
- Curved side line
- Reverse slanted bezel wall and case side
- Dress style with simple but beautiful design
- Zaratsu polishing
