Seiko 140th Anniversary Limited Edition
When Kintaro Hattori founded his company in 1881, he was just 21 years old. During his fifty years at the helm, Seiko became the leading watch company in Japan, with its own design and production facilities. This achievement was a direct result of his single-minded vision that Seiko should always be “one step ahead of the rest”.
His words resonate still and continue to inspire Seiko today. In celebration of Seiko’s 140th anniversary, Kintaro’s vision is now realized in a series of four limited edition watches that, together, show the range of Seiko’s watchmaking expertise, from automatic to GPS Solar.

SEIKO Presage SPB223J1 Special Features :
CONCEPT
Capturing the scene of the blue sky piercing through clouds, the combination of the silvery-white dial with blue ties together the watches from Seiko’s four representative collections.
Just as if sunlight spreads its glow throughout the sky, the new creations inspire us to move toward a brighter future.
The Presage Sharp Edged Series case and bracelet incorporate flat surfaces with sharp angles that allows the watch to sparkle from every angle. The case has a super-hard coating that protects the case and bracelet from scratches but also preserves its brilliance. The dial has an Asanoha or hemp leaf pattern that has been used for a thousand years and more in Japanese fabrics and architecture. The rich texture of the dial’s geometric pattern creates an infinite variety of shades at different angles as the light moves across it. The watch is powered by the automatic GMT caliber 6R64.
Sharp Edged Series
Since time immemorial, a central aspect of the Japanese sense of beauty has been simplicity.
To create objects or images of refinement and grace with few elements and no extraneous decoration has long been an aim of many Japanese craftsmen and artists and it is this aesthetic that lies at the heart of an important new series within the Presage collection.
In every detail, this new Seiko Presage Sharp Edged Series is a powerful and fresh expression of Japanese artistry.
Case Design
The Seiko Presage Sharp Edged Series case and bracelet incorporate many flat surfaces that have a modern sharpness that allows the watch to shine and sparkle from every angle. The case has a super-hard coating that protects the case and bracelet from scratches but also endows it with a long-lasting brilliance.
* The precisely engineered and polished surfaces and the crisp edges of its silhouette contrast with the subtle hairline finish to create a pleasingly multi-dimensional effect.
Dial Design
The dial incorporates a Japanese Asanoha or hemp leaf pattern, familiar in Japanese culture for its use in design since the Heian period over a thousand years ago. The Asanoha leaf was traditionally used as material for fabrics and the pattern holds a special importance in Japanese culture as it symbolizes rapid, strong growth and was thought to bring good health, especially to the young. The rich texture and intricacy of the dial’s sharply edged geometric pattern create a subtle color gradation as they play with the light at different angles.
Dial Color
The series comprises four new watches, each offering a dial with a different traditional Japanese color; Aitetsu, or indigo iron, Shironeri, an unbleached silky white, Tokiwa, the color of evergreen trees and Susutake, a brown-toned smoked bamboo.
SEIKO Presage SPB223J1 History :
Presage. The product of a century and more of experience
In 1913, Seiko made its first mechanical watch. 1956, Seiko made its first automatic watch. 1958 Seiko created its shock resistant system, Diashock, to preserve precision when the movement is subject to impact. 1959, Seiko invented the Magic Lever spring winding mechanism, and in 1964, it started producing balance springs in-house, utilizing its own specially developed alloy, Spron. 1967, Seiko created Japan’s first hi-beat caliber. 1969, Seiko made the world’s first automatic chronograph with vertical clutch and column wheel systems and in 2014 Seiko’s mechanical watchmaking skills were rewarded with a prize at the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève for its hi-beat caliber.
For over a century, Seiko has developed and refined its mechanical watchmaking skills. Today, all this experience comes together in a new, all-mechanical, collection named Presage. Presage has already been successful in Japan and selected other markets for some time. Now Presage goes global and takes center stage as Seiko’s leading mechanical watch collection.
Presage: A wide range of calibers, designs and tastes
Presage is a collection of broad appeal. It comprises 60 models and uses the full range of Seiko’s mechanical calibers, from the accessible 4R, through 6R to the exclusive 8R. Highlights include the 6R27 multi-hand power reserve model and a series using an entirely new version of the 4R57 caliber. This new caliber is Seiko’s first ever with a center power reserve indicator, and is available in a series of five designs, including a limited edition. Every Presage watch has 10 bar water resistance and a sapphire crystal.
Japan is a land with a long and unbroken cultural history and therefore values tradition very highly. Long-lasting beauty and long-lasting performance express the deep desires of Japanese culture and are therefore at the heart of Japanese craftsmanship. Both in design and manufacturing values, Presage belongs firmly in this tradition and offers the very highest levels of reliability and durability over time. Each Presage watch is built to last for generations.
