SEIKO Prospex SFJ009 Features
Seiko Watchmaking 110th Anniversary Limited Editions
This Prospex Speedtimer watch commemorates the 110th anniversary of the ‘Laurel’ – the first wristwatch made in Japan by Seiko.
Similar to the original ‘Laurel’ design, this model has a white dial with a red accent color at 12 o’clock. The leather material used for the strap is sourced from LWG certified tanneries – the Leather Working Group non-profit organization dedicated to sustainable leather production.
The black sub dials of this timepiece achieve visibility and legibility due to separate indicators for time and chronograph functions. The hammer-shaped button allows for easier operability of the stopwatch.
Powered by the in-house built 8A50 caliber, it is conveniently solar-powered; the watch charges from both natural and electric light.
Prospex is a combination of the words ‘Professional’ and ‘Specifications.’ Seiko Prospex timepieces are designed to be practical, reliable and durable; to meet the high standards required in extreme environments for sports lovers and adventure seekers alike.
* In the real watch, the case back direction may differ from the photograph.
This Speedtimer solar chronograph, is an analog chronograph capable of measuring elapsed time to 1/100th of a second. The sub-dial hands at the two, 10, and 12 o’clock positions are a vivid shade of red in honor of the Laurel. And like the early Seiko inspiration, the dial is a bright white. Black sub-dials enhance legibility while making a subtle nod to vintage Seiko chronographs.

About Seiko Prospex SFJ009
History of Seiko
The company was founded in 1881, when Kintarō Hattori opened a watch and jewerly shop called “K. Hattori” (服部時計店 Hattori Tokeiten) in the Ginza area of Tokyo, Japan. Eleven years later, in 1892, he began to produce clocks under the name Seikosha, meaning roughly “House of Exquisite Workmanship”.
The first watches produced under the Seiko brand appeared in 1924. In 1969, Seiko introduced the Astron, the world’s first production quartz watch, it cost the same as a medium-sized car. Seiko later went on to introduce the first quartz chronograph.
