The start of a tradition
Seiko created Japan’s first diver’s watch in 1965.
This watch inaugurated five decades of innovation that have made Seiko diver’s watches the global standard. Seiko’s first high-beat diver’s watch, created in 1968, is an important part of this tradition.
With a 10-beat high precision automatic caliber, a one-piece structure, a mono-directional rotating bezel and screw-down protection crown, the success of this model laid the foundation for the Seiko diver’s watch development which has now, for 50 years, pushed back the frontiers of precision, durability and ease of use in watches for professional and recreational divers.
DESIGN
A faithful homage with the latest functions
This model is a re-creation of the classic 1968 model, but with greatly enhanced specifications that incorporate the latest advancements in Seiko’s craftsmanship and technology.
A sharp case design
Like the original version, this recreation features a flat case with a sharp design. Seiko’s unique Zaratsu polishing techniques accentuate the edges, bringing additional sharpness and beauty to the lugs.
A flat case back, faithful to the original
While the original model was an air diver’s watch, the re-creation has been upgraded for saturation diving via a resilient one-piece case structure.
Even with this enhanced specification, the watch rests easily on any size wrist.
Enhanced legibility.
Each of the three hands has a different design, length and width and the LumiBrite on each has a distinct shape so that the time is easily read, under any circumstances. The dual-curved sapphire crystal delivers exceptional clarity from any viewing angle as well as enhanced durability.
Distinctive markers and long-lasting LumiBrite
The differentiated 12, 6, and 9 markers ensure that the watch can be read without error even 300 meters down.
The contrast of the black dial and special, long lasting LumiBrite allows for legibility even in the darkest environments.
The mono-directional rotating bezel ensures the absolute safety that divers require.
Based on the original design, the strap is made from a state-of-the-art material.
The original strap design has been re-created in high strength silicone, adding reliability while retaining comfort.
Movement: Caliber 8L55
This re-creation incorporates a Caliber 8L55 10-beat movement, specially optimized and adapted for use in a diver’s watch with this structure.
This caliber beats at 36,000 vibrations per hour and has a power reserve of 55 hours, and it is also assembled by Seiko’s leading craftsmen at the Shizukuishi Watch studio.
